Opioid Settlement Payouts to State and Local Governments

More than half a dozen companies have entered into national opioid settlements in which they've agreed to pay state and local governments billions of dollars over nearly two decades. Data from BrownGreer, the court-appointed firm administering the settlements, shows how much money jurisdictions received through 2024 and how much they expect in the future. The data is current as of Jan. 24, 2025.

Note: Data represents payouts from national settlements with the following companies: AmerisourceBergen (now called Cencora), Cardinal Health, McKesson, Janssen (now known as Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine), CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Allergan, and Teva. Some states did not participate in national settlements with some or all of these companies. If states settled with the companies separately, those payouts are not reflected here.
